Elvington, Yorkshire, was an RAF air base during the war and until 1992. The control tower and associated buildings are now the home of the Yorkshire Air Museum, displaying over 40 aircraft and full-scale replicas as well as war vehicles, uniforms, other memorabilia and historical documents.
The venue hosts a varied sequence of events from late spring until the autumn. Air-related shows include engine runs, flypasts and displays but not the full airshow of some venues. There are also vintage vehicle rallies including one billed as the largest military vehicle gathering in the north of England. For more details of the displays, see the calendar and the museums own web site.
The nearest railway station is York, which is served by trains from Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham.
By car, head for York. Take the Hull exit from the York by-pass (A1079) and then go immediately right onto the B1228 towards Elvington. The museum is signposted from there.
