The traditional Air Fair has not been held since 2010. A new annual Family Open Day was held in September 2011 but not in 2012. Any shows will be listed in the calendar.
Biggin Hill was a famous fighter station, which played a major role in the Battle of Britain and, despite repeated attacks, remained operational throughout. On November 2nd, 1939, a squadron from Biggin Hill shot down the first enemy aircraft of WW2, a Dornier Do17.
Shows at Biggin Hill used to be organised by Air Displays International, who were based at the airfield, but the last of these shows was held in 2010. A new format is planned for 2011 onwards, said to better reflect the airport's 'emerging role .. as a Business & General Aviation Aerospace Centre', although there will still be recognition of its past with WW11 aircraft displays.
Biggin Hill is on the A233 in Kent, quite close to Bromley. From most directions, take the M25 and exit at junction 4. Don't try junctions 5 or 6, even from the west, because of congestion on nearby roads. The show is well signposted and there are usually several routes into the airfield to split up the traffic queues. Traffic news is provided by the airshow radio - the frequency is signposted as you get close.
The nearest station is Hayes, about 4 miles away. There are bus connections from Bromley South, East Croydon and West Croydon stations.
